  1. STATUS OF NSDP II

Hon. Senator L. Khoaele to ask the Minister of Finance and Development Planning to apprise the  Senate on the status of implementation of the National Strategic development Plan II (NSDPII).

  • ELUCIDATION ON THE 2022/2023 LGSE RESULTS

Hon. Senator Dr. T. Lebese to ask the Minister of Education and Training to elucidate to the Senate on the following questions pertaining to the 2022/2023 LGCSE results;

  •    Were the overall results satisfactory,

(b)    If not what were the reasons behind the poor results,

  • What plans has the Ministry formulated to improve the standard of education and achieve a better pass rate in the coming years.
  • THEFT OF FIREARMS AT POLICE STATIONS

Hon. Senator M.L. Lebona to ask the Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police to update the Senate on the theft of exhibit firearms at police stations;

  • How many firearms were stolen between 2015 and 2022,
  • How many were recovered,
  • How many of those stolen firearms have been linked to other crimes,
  • How many suspects were arrested,
  • How many cases are before the courts of law,
  • Are there plans to curb the theft of exhibit firearms at police stations; and
  • If there is there is a plan, can the Minister present the plan.
  • UPKEEP OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY

Hon. Senator M. Kanetsi to ask the Minister of Public Works and Transport the following in regard to the upkeep of Government property (office buildings and residential buildings);

  • Does the Ministry have guidelines on the upkeep of Government property,
  • If not when will the Ministry develop such guidelines,
  • If yes, can the Minister present the guidelines to the Senate,
  • Does the Ministry have any monitoring mechanism to observe if Government properties are taken care by tenants.
  • CLARIFICATION ON WATER POLLUTION BY MINES

Hon. Senator Q. Sekonyela to ask the Minister of Natural Resources to shed light on the accuracy of recent media reports that diamond mines are responsible for polluting water in communities where they have operations, and that their operations may be responsible for polluting water that is being transferred to the Republic of  South Africa through the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP).

If the minister confirms these reports, how is the Ministry addressing the problem of pollution by diamond mines.

  • PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Hon. Senator M.T. Mohale to ask the Minister of Public Works and Transport to update the Senate on the project status of the following roads and buildings and their projected completion;

  • Ha Marakabei to Mononts’a  Road;
  • Mpiti to Sehlaba-thebe Road;
  • The National Museum and Archives;
  • The Royal Palace
  • Ha Ts’epo via Matelile

What has the Ministry learned on managing the construction of these projects .

  • UPDATE ON LDF CONTINGENCY IN MOZAMBIQUE

Hon. Senator J.A. Mots’oene to ask the Minister of Defence, National Security and Environment to apprise the Senate on the well-being and general condition of Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) contingency deployed in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province as part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

  • PROGRESS REPORT ON THE PHASE II OF THE LESOTHO HIGHLANDS WATER PROJECT

Hon. Senator Q. Sekonyela to ask the Minister of Natural Resources to make a statement on the progress and milestones of the second phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

  •  STATEMENT ON PLANS FOR POWER GENERATION IN          LESOTHO

Hon. S.S. Nkuebe to ask the Minister of Natural Resources to make a statement on the Ministry’s plans for power generation in Lesotho. The statement should also include the current projects at Ha Ramarothole and One Power Project.

  1.  CLOSURE OF FACTORIES IN LESOTHO

Hon. Senator B.G. Api to ask the Minister of Trade, Industry, Business Development and Tourism the following questions in regard to closure of factories in Lesotho;

  • How many factories have ceased to operate during the 2022/2023 financial year,
  • How many workers have lost their jobs as a result of the closures,
  • What type of goods were produced by those factories; and
  • Could the Minister also outline his Ministry’s plan to attract new investors,
  1.  CANNABIS INDUSTRY IN LESOTHO

Hon. Senator L.M. Seeiso to ask the Minister of Health the following questions in regard to the cannabis industry in Lesotho;

  • How many licenses have been issued from 2008 to date,
  • How many licenses have been issued to Basotho nationals,
  • How many licenses have been issued to multinational companies,
  • How many companies have operational facilities for production,
  • How many license holders have failed to launch their production,
  • What is the estimated contribution of the industry to the economy,
  • Are there any plans to attract small scale indigenous farmers into the industry.
  1.   SALE OF ROTTEN FOOD TO CUSTOMERS

Hon. Senator R. Mopeli to ask the Minister of Trade, Industry, Business Development and Tourism if he is aware that foreign owned shops persist to sell rotten foods to Basotho consumers.

If the Minister is aware what punitive action is the Ministry taking in order to protect the lives of consumers, and to deter traders from selling such food.

  1.   DELAY IN PAYMENT OF SALARIES AT QUEEN ‘MAMOHATO    MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Hon. Senator M.P. Mokhathali to ask the Minister of Health the following    questions on the payment of salaries of professional and non-professional staff at Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital:

  1. What are the causes of the delay of paying salaries of professional and non-professional staff at the hospital;
  2. What kind of service is the Ministry expecting if payment of salaries are delayed and staff are dissatisfied,
  3. What plan of action is the Ministry taking in order to prioritize the payment of salaries of staff at the country’s only referral hospital,
  4. Could the Minister outline the Ministry’s long term vision for the referral hospital.
