41.     PUTTING INTO EFFECT POLICIES WHICH WILL BENEFIT COMMUNITIES AT THE LESOTHO HIGHLANDS PROJECT SITE.

(Resumption of adjourned debate in Question, Thursday, 10th April, 2025)

That this Honourable Senate urges the Government of Lesotho to expeditiously level the playing field at the Lesotho Highlands Water Project sites in order for Basotho to accrue more benefits from the ongoing construction work. Equity could be in the form of;

  • Implementation of corporate social responsibility policies that would compel companies to invest in affected communities by enhancing their basic essential services
  • Effecting an equitable salary structure that would effectively improve the lives of Basotho workers.

The implementation of this suggested policy framework would positively impact on the lives of affected communities at the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
