70.     REGULATIONS THAT ADMINISTER SMALL BUSINESSES**

To ask the Minister of Trade, Industry and Small Businesses to present regulations that govern the operations of Small Businesses that trade in liquor.

  • Which mechanisms are utilized by the Ministry to ensure that the above mentioned businesses operate within the confines of the law and that they safeguard the welfare of communities where they operate.

80.     UNPAID ACTING ALLOWANCE

To ask the Minister for Education and Training, whether the Minister is aware that Mr Tankiso Makhabane whose Employment Number (0002446) had been temporarily appointed to act on a vacant position at Ntjepeleng Primary School from January 2015 to June 2024 but had not been paid his acting allowance to date.

And if so, how soon will the Minister intervene.

81.     NEED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A POLICE POST

To ask the Minister for Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police if he is aware of the dire need of a Police Station at Hloahloeng and Qabane areas due to an alarming rate of crime in those areas.

If so, how soon shall the Ministry construct a police station in order to bring the situation under control in those mentioned areas.

82.     NEED FOR MEANS OF TRANSPORT AT POLICE POST

To ask the Minister for Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police if he is aware of transport challenges at Phamong and Ketane Police Posts.

  • If so, how soon shall the Ministry provide this police post with cars and horses as it is in dire need of transport to effectively provide services to areas under its jurisdiction.
  • What plans are in place to tackle the shortage of transport at Police Posts across the country.

83      CEMETERY SCHEME AT MAPUTSOE URBAN COUNCIL

To ask the Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police the following questions:

1.       Is the Minister aware that the Maputsoe Urban Council has designated a piece of land, which was once a field, as a cemetery and that each resident (individual members of each family) aged thirty and above is charged a fee of M340 to have their dead buried in that land.

2.       Is the Minister also aware that according to estimates, the money to be collected is estimated to M900,000.00 while the landowner has only asked for a minimum of M250, 000.00?

3.       If the Minister is aware, can he enlighten the House if the Government is part of this scheme charging these exorbitant prices.

4.  What will become of the balance which is estimated at

M650, 000.00.

5.       Will a person who has paid the M340 already, but who has to leave the Urban Council for marital and other reasons, get a refund.

84.     STATEMENT ON LATEST DEVELOPMENT REGARDING ISSUANCE OF IDENTITY DOCUMENTS AND PASSPORTS

To ask the Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police to appraise the Senate on latest developments in regard to the issuance of Identity Documents (I.Ds) and Passports  following a site visit conducted by the Committee on Government Assurances (CGA) at the Department of Home Affairs on 3rd September, 2024.
