118.   FEEDBACK ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LESOTHO DUAL CITIZENSHIP INTRODUCED BY EIGHTH AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION ACT, 2018***

Hon.Senator M.Kanetsi

To ask the Minister for Home Affairs and Police, if she is aware that the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution Act of 2018 provided for dual citizenship in Lesotho. If so, what is the current status of its implementation, specifically:

  1. The number of applications received and processed since the Amendment came into force;
    1. The administrative procedures currently in place to facilitate applications;
    1. Any challenges encountered in rolling out the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution, including resource or capacity constraints;
    1. Measures taken to ensure Basotho diaspora are adequately informed and able to access the provisions of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution;
    1. The anticipated timelines for full operationalization of the Eight Amendment to the Constitution across all relevant government departments, and also
    1.  Provide the feedback the Ministry has received from Basotho citizens, both domestic and in the diaspora, regarding the effectiveness and accessibility of the Act’s implementation.
